YONEX Duora 88 Review

In this article we will do the Duora 88 review, this racket was launched in March 2016, so it has already been used and experienced.

It is common for almost all Duora’s to be compared to Duora 10 as it has been by far the most successful racket in this series, and is still used by many players even though it has been on the market for several years.

We consider this racquet more for beginner / intermediate players, not for the price itself (which is even quite affordable for the racket today), but rather because it lacks some essential characteristics to become a reference racket at a semi-professional level /professional.

There are mainly two types of rackets that are most wanted by players:

  • Rackets focused on a more offensive playstyle and they tend to be more head-heavy rackets;
  • Super fast rackets, which are usually used by doubles players or a player who has a style of playing more based on the counter-attack, these being head-light or in some cases even balance;

With this in mind, this racket does not fit into any of the categories, staying in the middle and as players who are better and more experienced tend to choose a racquet of one of these types, the Duora 88 never managed to achieve great popularity among the greatest players.

Here at Duora 88 review, we will show you what some of the features of this racquet are, implemented technologies, pros, cons.

Ready? Let’s go then.

AeroBox Frame

As already mentioned above, this racquet has two different sides, each using different styles of frames and are also made of different materials thus giving more emphasis to power on one side and control of the other.

This concept was quite innovative and in summary, was a success.

You can not notice an absurd difference that obliges the player to always know which side is hitting the shuttle but is enough to give that small advantage to players accustomed to the racket and who always know which side they are playing.

Dual Optimum System

In conjunction with the design difference on both sides of the frame, it’s material composition is also different, thus theoretically enhancing each of the faces differently.

While the forehand uses a material called Nanometric DR that helps increase the contact time between the shuttlecock and the strings in order to improve their control, the backhand uses a material called Ni-Ti Fiber that is reported to significantly enhance the repulsion of his movements, thus being a help since this is the weaker side of all players.

All of these side differences turn out to be imperceptible for a beginning or intermediate player, so do not be obsessed about whether you are using the “correct” side on every move.

Isometric Form

By having this form, the spacing between the ropes is the same, which makes your beat is much more consistent even when it does not strike precisely in the center of the racket, thus significantly improving its control.

A badminton game is not just strength and smashes. If you do not have consistency in your game, you will lose all points even without the opponent using a smash.

Other features we can point to are:

  • Aero + Box frame;
  • Built T-Joint;
  • Slim Shaft;
  • Energy Boost Cap;

Now we’ll look at your performance across the various types of bids and see what your strengths and weaknesses are.

Performance

Clear

The clears are easy to do as is natural, but more beginner players may have some difficulty putting the shuttlecock in the back of the court because they do not have the necessary technique and the racket does not help much to compensate for this fragility.

This is a racket of high quality and does not have bad construction, however, if we buy with the Duora 10, some players report a strange sensation when making the shot, as if it were not compact enough.

Drop Shots

Drop shots are a movement that the player needs to have the right technique to do it right.

The racket is a bit heavy so you may feel some difficulty making this move consistently, remembering that we are talking to intermediate players and that they sometimes play at your local club.

Smashes

It is possible to make good smashes with this racket, but you need to have some technique and also the arm strength required to make your smash powerful enough for what you probably want.

You have to make a smarter game, prefer to put the shuttle instead of having a very offensive game.

Another difficulty you may encounter as a more inexperienced player is that you have a stiff shaft, something that you may not be familiar with because rackets for players with less ability usually have more flexibility.

Defense

It is a racket with some weight as has been mentioned several times in this article and for that reason defending will not be the easiest task for anyone looking to focus their game in this more defensive style.

However, you can perform well enough and accept enough for most of your opponents if you have reflexes and the ability to react to it.

Conclusion

As we said, this racket is in a range of types quite weird and is not perfect for any type of player and style of play.

Although this is a good racket, it is currently marketed at a reasonable price for its quality and so if you are a beginner or even a middleman, you will probably enjoy playing with the Duora 88.

If you can try before you buy, whether it is borrowed from a teammate, a store that has some rackets to try, a tournament, etc… Only then you will be able to evaluate for yourself if it adapts to you and your likes as a player.

And so, did you know more about this racquet with our YONEX Duora 88 review, since its characteristics, if it is good to attack, defend, price, etc…?
